Back in October 1984, Russ was approached by Capital Radio to be their new 'Flying Eye' airborne traffic reporter and initially agreed to sign a two week contract. Russ went on to be known on London's Capital 95.8FM and 1548 Capital Gold radio stations, as 'The Commander of the Flying Eye’ for 20 years.
Russ Kane was educated at Dulwich College and subsequently the London School of Economics and Political Science where he read Law. Forsaking dusty legal tomes for the bright lights of advertising, he worked for three years on New York's Madison Avenue as a copywriter for Ted Bates and The Marschalk Company, specialising in television commercials.
Returning to London, Russ became a freelance writer, continuing his work for a wide array of British and European blue-chip companies while combining his corporate activities with those of television Light Entertainment. He contributed material to The Russ Abbot Show (BBC), Bobby Davro On The Box (ITV), The Brian Conley Show (LWT) and Hale & Pace (LWT).
Russ has appeared on various programmes including the BBC's Esther talkshow, How Do They Do That?, Barry Norman's Filmnight and The Eleventh Hour; Carlton's Metroland and The London Programme and the Ideal Shopping channel.
In March 1992, Russ was a major contributor to BBC's further education series Second Chance, which subsequently received a Royal Television Society Award. As a result, Russ was commissioned to write the six part education comedy/ documentary series for the BBC entitled What Shall We Tell The Children? He went on to complete the scripts for another 10 part series of Second Chance and The Eleventh Hour, both for BBC. As well as a busy full time writing career, Russ also hosts corporate conferences and video programmes.
Since December 93, Russ has appeared in many successful pantomimes. Roles have included 'Buttons' in Cinderella, 'Muddles' in Snow White & The Seven Dwarves, ‘Dandini’ in Cinderella and ‘Starkey’ in Peter Pan. He also won the BBC’s ‘Weakest Link’ Panto special.
In 2001, Russ and his wife Sally successfully published Shout at the Moon (John Blake publishers). The book tells the story of the tough challenges they had to face during their marriage.
